This course will review the new official position of APTA drafted and presented by IPTA which supports that nonpharmacologic blood pressure management is within the scope of physical therapy practice. Future implications of this motion for physical therapy practice will be discussed. Additionally, this course will provide a brief summary of the evidence regarding interventions for blood pressure management that are within the scope of practice for physical therapists.

About the Speaker
Richard Severin PT, DPT, PhD, CCS is a board-certified cardiovascular and pulmonary clinical specialist. Dr. Severin serves as clinical faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is the coordinator of the bariatric surgery rehabilitation program at UIHealth. He is also a part-time clinical assistant professor in the Hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Baylor University. His research and clinic practice interests include cardiorespiratory physiology, and obesity.
